Trên bãi biển
Vũng nồm làng chài Phước Lý,

vần cao lên bãi kẻo sóng cuốn kéo đi.

Shifting the Boats!
It has been a long time since I last saw
the common sight of shifting boats—
so familiar in days gone by—
on the sands of Vung Nom beach in Phuoc Ly fishing village.
When the boats returned,
they had to be hauled high up the shore to keep the waves from dragging them away.
A few people would gather, bracing their shoulders and hands
to help one another,
shifting or pushing
amidst a lively, bustling atmosphere.
Moving the boats up high
or sometimes guiding them back out to sea—
an arduous task,
yet one shared in a spirit of camaraderie.
As the tides rose and fell
hour by hour,
the work of shifting the boats was adapted
to ensure the safety of every vessel.
